Gilded Range (Print)
Golden fields stretch toward the Rockies beneath a sky bursting with energy! This painting captures the contrast between the open plains and the strength of the peaks—an iconic view of the American West. It’s all about that wide-open, sunlit beauty that makes Colorado so special—bold, enduring, and filled with the unstoppable spirit of the West.
Inspired by a view I see often in the winter near my Colorado home: of cold mountain peaks bathed in sunlight and dried crops waiting for Spring, I started this painting with my favorite yellow ochre making sweeping diagonal brushstrokes.
Once again, I limited my color palette to 5 bottles of acrylic paint: titanium white, permanent black, yellow ochre + an inexpensive craft blue & a craft green I already had on hand. I gave myself permission to mix those 5 as much as I wanted, but only those!
I’m in love with the energy of this piece and the tiny, finishing details of wheat in the fields and small dots of snow and light above the mountains. This was a very fun painting to create and I actually don’t fully want to part with it!
